The Allied Second Front, 1943-1944 About the Book With the clarity and prolific interpretation of a leading military historian, comes an arresting new account on the conception of D-Day. Through a fresh analytical lens, aligning problems of operational use of force, strategy and the orchestration of combined and littoral warfare, historian Scott Romaniuk unearths the principle verities that dictated the planning and execution of Operation Overlord. Scrutinizing the rationale of senior German and Allied commanders alike, the author sets D-Day and its expedients soundly within the broader milieu of the war in Europe. A creative examination of this kind, elying myth of the largest coalition operation in military history, has seldom been made in these terms. bsorbing and dynamic, it compels the reader to consider lurid aspects, other than the traditional, almost strictly strategic levels regarding this burgeoning facet of the Second World War. About the Author Scott Nicholas Romaniuk is a conflict analyst and peace practitioner, and a former member of the Canadian Forces. A doctoral candidate of politics and international relations, he holds a specialized bachelor's degree in History, and German Language and Literature, as well as a master's degree in European, Russian and Eurasian Studies. His research interests traverse the fields of international relations, strategic studies, war and conflict, ethno-nationalism, state violence, and genocide and Holocaust studies. With numerous publications in scholarly journals and edited books, he has presented at Harvard University, University of Cambridge, University of Toronto, and the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University, among others. He has worked for the United Nations (UN), Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), and several international social organizations around the world. He is the founding-director of the Organization for Peace and Security Studies, and the 2007 Weller Prize laureate for his contributions to the fields of security, intelligence, and law. In 2008, he was nominated for the 2009 Student Peace Prize in Norway.
